A modern twist on a Raking tradition
Hosted by The Song House with singer/songwriter Andrew Roddy
Join us this April for an online Raking gathering. The Song House invites you to gather in the spirit of sharing a yarn, a song or whatever you’d like to bring along. You are welcome also to join us as an observer.
What is Raking?
In traditional Ireland there was once what was known as the Raking House. Today, in some rural communities the essence of this treasured house still exists. The raking house is like the hub of a community, known for its heart & feet warming fires and a place to share a yarn, to dance, sing, share and connect in the spirit of togetherness & good craic. Join us as the Song House becomes the digital Raking House and our community stretches far & wide with the good use of modern technology, supporting us to gather together from the comfort of our homes.
Andrew Roddy
Belfast born, Andrew Roddy was a Dublin-based actor in the 80s and 90s and all the while with an accompanying passion for music. He was kept busy as a freelancer working on stage and in film and television. He is proud of his work with TEAM theatre in education company and for several years he was well known playing the part of Rory in RTE’s popular drama series Glenroe. At the beginning of a brand new millennium he turned away from that and resolved to make music the main focus of his attention. To that end he moved to Falcarragh to study traditional music and has never looked back. Well, hardly ever! He is a traditional flute-player guitarist and singer/songwriter who feels priveliged to be welcomed into the local music scene in the North Donegal area.
