A modern twist on a Raking tradition
Hosted by The Song House with storyteller Brigitte Hirsig<
Join us this April for an online Raking gathering. The Song House invites you to gather in the spirit of sharing a yarn, a song or whatever you’d like to bring along. You are welcome also to join us as an observer.
What is Raking?
In traditional Ireland there was once what was known as the Raking House. Today, in some rural communities the essence of this treasured house still exists. The raking house is like the hub of a community, known for its heart & feet warming fires and a place to share a yarn, to dance, sing, share and connect in the spirit of togetherness & good craic. Join us as the Song House becomes the digital Raking House and our community stretches far & wide with the good use of modern technology, supporting us to gather together from the comfort of our homes.
Born in 1972, Brigitte grew up in a fairytale location between mountains and lakes. After teaching music and language, she followed her heart’s desire and became a storyteller.
2005 Trained as a professional storyteller at the Mutabor School for Fairy Tales and Storytelling Culture. On the road as a storyteller since 2008, freelance since 2015. Tells in Swiss German, High German, bilingual (German-French) and English. She tells fairy tales, improvises stories, sings and plays several instruments. “Storytelling is my passion. I love to bring the ancient wisdom of fairy tales to new life. Traveling through time and space becomes possible. I also like to invent stories spontaneously on stage. An adventure!
It is always a gift when a story then just appears and lets itself be told by me.”
