A modern twist on a Raking tradition
Hosted by The Song House with Fran O’Boyle
Join us this November for an online Raking gathering. The Song House invites you to gather in the spirit of sharing a yarn, a song or whatever you’d like to bring along. You are welcome also to join us as an observer. To kickstart the evening we will host Fran O’Boyle who will share the treasure of a story or two, and the treasures themselves inherent in the story telling tradition. Then we cordially open the floor to you.
What is Raking?
In traditional Ireland there was once what was known as the Raking House. Today, in some rural communities the essence of this treasured house still exists. The raking house is like the hub of a community, known for its heart & feet warming fires and a place to share a yarn, to dance, sing, share and connect in the spirit of togetherness & good craic. Join us this November 21st as the Song House becomes the digital Raking House and our community stretches far & wide with the good use of modern technology, supporting us to gather together from the comfort of our homes.
Storyteller Fran Ó Boyle
Fran Ó Boyle will be the main act of the night. He is a Donegal/Shropshire based professional storyteller and illustrator whose work has taken him on many adventures in schools, libraries, art centres, festivals, young offender’s institutes. He works in both English and Irish and will share with us the treasures inherent in his craft. Hear some of the wonderful stories he has and continues to uncover via this beautiful craft. As well as this Fran will bring in much of the Irish language with phrases and translations and you will get a sneak peak into his current quest with uncovering story specifically connected to the wondrous local landscape of Donegal and the North West of Ireland. Fáilte gach duine.
