Hiking, kayaking and yoga weekend with Conor and Kay

Escape to the enriching energy of Donegal on our Wild Atlantic Way Hiking, Kayaking and Yoga Weekend.

Journey with us as we guide you from the tops of our mountains to the depths of local sea caves. Get off the beaten track on land, on water and on a yoga mat. Explore your connection, be present, reflect and reward yourself in this space. Discover as we uncover the layers of history in our landscape and learn about our rich Gaelic culture and heritage.

Arrive late evening for our introduction briefing accompanied by refreshments.


Rise early to join us in our beautiful main room with views to Muckish Mountain for a slow flow yoga session followed by a short meditation.

A nutritious wholesome breakfast will be served afterwards.

Mid Morning to Afternoon
The main part of Saturday and Sunday will be spent on an outdoor activity, a guided hike or coastal kayaking trip. The order of these activities will be decided closer to the time and will be depend on weather and tides. A nutritious packed lunch will be supplied to you before you depart the house each day.

Late Afternoon
We will return to the house in the late afternoon, where you can shower and relax. A short yoga session will be offered for those who are keen. The rest of the afternoon is free time for you to enjoy.

Dinner will be at 7pm.


Morning schedule will be the same as Saturday and Sunday.

Mid morning to afternoon (finishing at 3pm)
A heritage tour exploring our landscape and how it has shaped its colourful people, from Lugh the Celtic God of light and Balor of the Evil Eye to the Roman’s trading with the local kings, Saint Colmcille and the first copyright dispute in history, gun running and train robbing women, one local man, a whale bone and his tale of striking gold in the Klondike…
Packed lunch provided.

Debriefing and farewell.

What’s included?

What’s not included?

Transport to and from the Song House. Guests will be expected to make their own way to the house. Full directions and transport options will be given. We will share cars to travel to/from sites or order a taxi if need be as taxis are exceptionally cheap here in Donegal.

Any snack food outside of the three meals provided.

Yoga mats, please bring your own if you have one. Mats can be hired at €10 each for weekend use. Please notify us in advance so we make sure we have one set aside for you.

One evening dinner which will be a group outing to a local restaurant.

Insurance for a weekend holiday, make sure you have cover for yoga, kayaking and hiking activities.

Meal plan

All food where possible will be sourced locally. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Options to add local fresh fish or free range eggs will also be available. GF / DF catered for.

Kay McKeon

Kay is a Dublin lass who had been living in New Zealand and working as a Graphic Designer for eight years when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June 2017. She was 39 and a fit outdoor enthusiast who was very conscious of her nutrition and lifestyle. The news she had Breast Cancer came as a complete shock.
After three operations Kay returned to live in Ireland in November 2017.

Breast Cancer took her life on a massive detour and since the diagnosis she been spent time recovering, regrouping and re-evaluating what is important to her in her life. As a huge outdoors enthusiast she knows how much fitness and nature have a positive impact on one’s mind, body and soul. In April 2018 she trained as a Yoga Instructor in India and gained her 200 YTT. She is currently following her passion by working towards her Mountain Leader and gaining Life Coaching qualifications. She wishes to guide people to find confidence by building their inner connection to themselves through activities in the outdoors that are both challenging and compassionate.

Conor Γ“ Braonain

Conor is a native of Donegal, he was raised as Gaelic speaker and has lived in the Gaeltacht for many years. Conor is a Failte Ireland certified guide and has an extensive knowledge in local and national heritage. He can envelop you in local myth and legend, give meaning through the place names of the landscape, excite you on the water, and help give you a sense of wonder in the local mountains.

He is a kayaking instructor and a mountain guide with much experience kayaking in the local coastal waters, to sea caves at Marble Hill and beyond. For years Conor has been involved in leading local walking groups including the Social Hikers, Men On The Move and Scout Groups. He’s walked on the Camino and also been involved in organising tours to the Himalayas and the Picos De Europa.

    I have just received this from my FB page and am it sounds just lovely. Kay I am a Dublin woman, married to a Dutchman and we both live in Uganda where we have a Lodge call the Yellow Haven Lodge. I have been on my journey of Breast Cancer and had the Mastectomy, Chemo and Radiotherapy. Just this year I had a full reconstruction surgery (8hrs operation) and am recovering very well.
    I have never been very outdoors type and very little to none experience in Yoga but I really feel I could do a lot of Outdoor Walking and if you can give me some Yoga techniques I would love to come on one of your weekends. Is this possible to do. My husband is more active for outdoors but we want to find something we could enjoy and experience together. We’ve both been thru a lot and I feel this would focus us.

      Thank you for sharing your story with us.

      I’m happy to hear you are coming out the other side of your Breast Cancer journey. It’s been a tough road for you. You’ve had two massive surgeries and a lot of treatment. In terms of flexibility and movement, all of this will bring unique challenges. I applaud you for wanting to give a weekend like this a go. Building your confidence back in your own body and mind. You’re the same person but different and you need to figure out how all the pieces fit. Taking part in a weekend like this would be a very mindful and energising experience.

      Our weekend would require some level of fitness, as we will be hiking up Muckish Mountain and sea kayaking for a couple of hours. We aim to hike at a pace that includes everyone, take breaks when needed but if you are not used to hiking uphill it would be a tough introduction. The kayaking will use your upper body and arms so it depends on how well your recovery is going and what your physio thinks. There will be two people in a kayak so if your husband wants to do most of the paddling then you’re on to a winner. πŸ™‚

      Yoga is a wonderful way to relax and help your body and mind recover. An integral part is breathing, inhaling and exhaling with your movement. There is yoga for all levels, there are always different options for each pose and I would be happy to work out some routines with you in mind that you can try during the weekend.
